Why it’s important to compare UFC odds

You might wonder if UFC betting odds can be that different. Don’t sportsbooks copy each other? It’s a fair question. Sportsbooks are run by pretty sharp people, so you’d think they have it all figured out. But that doesn’t mean they share odds on UFC. In fact you’d be surprised at how often they disagree.

So why trek after the best UFC odds? Simply put, it’s better for your pocketbook, a small difference in odds on UFC can mean a big difference in your bank.

Say you bet $200 on a fight. If one sportsbook has the favourite at 7/20, and another has him at 9/20, that’s an extra $20 when you win.

What’s more, sportsbooks aren’t created equal. You might find two are listing the same UFC betting odds, but one lets you cash out during the fight. So keep an eye out for perks you like.

Online vs. offline: Chasing the best UFC odds

We all know that UFC betting odds aren’t just available online, brick and mortar sportsbooks still make up a significant amount of the odds on UFC fights bettors see. Some people find old habits hard to break, but if you’ve never used online betting platforms for odds on UFC and are still getting in your car to drive to your local sportsbook then you might miss out on the best UFC odds.

Modern online betting platforms give you so much more in terms of speed, comfort, and convenience. For starters you can bet anywhere. If you want to wager while relaxing on a tropical beach with a cocktail in one hand, or make a parlay at the airport before jetting off to a mountain resort then go right ahead. Then there’s the cornucopia of features online betting platforms provide, like live betting, mobile apps, streaming, 24/7 customer support, and more.

How odds work in UFC

Ever since two men stepped into a ring to fight, there’s been a third betting on the winner. But how do UFC betting odds work?Odds on UFC represent likelihoods. The more likely an outcome, the smaller the risk, and the less you win. These are short odds. Conversely, the less likely, the greater the risk, and the greater the reward. These are long odds.Sportsbooks use a variety of odds systems, and knowing each is important when looking for the best UFC odds.

Decimal odds show you what a $1 bet returns, including your stake. So 1.5 means a return of $150 on a $100 bet, for a $50 profit. Decimal odds never go below 1, and 2 means even odds.

Fractional odds, another way to show odds on UFC fights, show winnings as a fraction of your stake.  For example 1/10 means your winnings would be one tenth of your stake, or 10%. So a $100 bet returns $110 for a $10 profit.Conversely 5/4 means your winnings would be five fourths of your stake, or 125%. So a $100 bet returns $225 for a $125 profit. Unlike decimal odds, fractional odds don’t include your stake.

American odds work by giving an indication of your return from a standard $100 stake for long or ‘plus’ odds. Or the amount needed to generate a $100 profit for short or ‘minus’ odds.So +750 means a $100 bet returns $850 for a $750 profit. Minus odds are trickier, -350 for example means a $350 bet generates $100 of profit (so a total return of $450 including your stake).  Plus odds can’t go below +100, and minus can’t go above -100, and both mean even odds.

Finally most sportsbooks will list even odds as simply ‘Even’ or ‘EVS’.

How sportsbooks calculate UFC odds

Setting UFC fight betting odds is difficult, and takes skill. Finding the best UFC odds is important for bettors, but for oddsmakers it’s the difference between turning a profit and bankruptcy. So you can bet these guys do their research before setting their UFC betting odds.

Let’s illustrate setting odds with a coin toss. It’s exactly even, but if you give heads and tails even odds, opposing bets cancel out and sportsbooks make no profit. Instead you might get 19/20 odds either way. That way sportsbooks can pocket the 1/20 difference.

With UFC odds today, many factors go into consideration, fighter weigh-ins, reach, height, records, recent form, even past injuries that might resurface. Oddsmakers collect this information then let algorithms and formulas determine their UFC betting odds.

All sportsbooks operate differently, using different formulas. So their odds on UFC may be similar, but won’t always be the same.

Common strategies for betting on UFC

Strategies for selecting the best odds on UFC betting, or any other event, are varied and often complex. The best strategy for finding UFC betting odds will depend on what your desired destination looks like.

Arbitrage betting for instance, or arb for short, is a technique that uses large bets placed at multiple sportsbooks. Bettors look for inconsistencies in the UFC betting odds each sportsbook offers, and try to find ways to exploit those differences by betting both sides of a line. The exact way it works can be very complex and involves detailed mathematical analysis of odds on UFC, so it’s not for the faint of heart.

A more approachable strategy for UFC fight betting odds is matched betting, it involves taking advantage of sportsbooks offers by hedging your bet elsewhere. So you might have a free $20 bet on a fighter, then take the opposite with another sportsbook. This strategy lowers your potential profit, but eliminates the risk.

Finally some betting strategies involve creating your own statistical models for determining the probabilities of different outcomes and finding your own odds on UFC events. It takes a lot of work, but if you’re smart enough it can be worthwhile.

The biggest market for odds on UFC fights will always be the result of the fight. But that’s far from the only UFC betting odds market available. Other odds on UFC include guessing how the fight ends, either by decision, submission, or TKO/KO. You might bet on when the fight ends. Will it go the distance, or end in the second round? You can also bet on scoring for individual rounds, and much more.

UFC betting odds comparison quick facts

Why should I compare UFC betting odds before making my deposit with a sportsbook?

It’s never too late to compare so you can find the best UFC odds, but be careful to do so before you make your deposit as it’s often easier and quicker to check first. Many sportsbooks make it faster to deposit than to withdraw. They might require you to give proof of identity or other documents, and by the time you have booked your money into the sportsbook you want to use the odds on UFC have shifted or the event has begun. So remember, check first, deposit second.

There is absolutely nothing illegal about matched betting. Sportsbooks aren’t required to offer free bets or promotions, matched betting is simply taking advantage of offers that sportsbooks make at their own discretion.

Do you charge some kind of fee for UFC betting odds comparison?

The tools here are completely free, we’re not interested in charging you money, we’re just here to explain the odds on UFC and guide bettors along their journey in discovering where to find the best UFC odds available.

Do the UFC betting odds for a fight really change that much over time?

Odds on UFC fights don’t always change from one second to the next, but many things can cause odds on UFC to fluctuate over time. It could be fight related, like the weigh-in, or it may be oddsmakers shifting the line to balance the risk they are taking. Whatever the reason, it’s always good to keep an eye out for the best UFC odds.

Don’t people always fly to Vegas to bet on UFC fights?

They certainly can, especially if an event is being held there and they want to watch it live, but there’s no need for you to travel with modern streaming services and online sports betting platforms. These days the best UFC odds are at your fingertips wherever you are, you could be thousands of miles away and still have the best seat in the house.

UFC undercard fight betting strategies

A standard UFC event is built around one big showdown, the main event, it’s the fight with the most prestige and the most money on the line because these fights have the biggest names in the sport and hold the key to what every competitor dreams of, a title belt. McGregor, GSP, Jones, Rousey, Usman, these are the kind of fighters who can bring in audiences beyond just the dedicated fans. For that reason their bouts will often feature the most carefully crafted UFC betting odds which oddsmakers have spent their time researching.

We all love a champion of course, but when a champion is at the height of their dominance in the ring it can be a little less interesting from a spectator’s perspective. It can make for some very lopsided fights and some similarly lopsided UFC betting odds. Of course that does mean that if you successfully predict that a challenger will claim the belt it could be a big payday.

Naturally most fans will want to put their biggest bet down on the big fight that comes at the end of the event, however the quality of UFC cards has only gotten better as the sport grows, and it can be worthwhile taking a look at the odds on UFC fights farther down the list. Sometimes the best UFC odds are on a fight between two relative unknowns. It all comes down to how balanced the matchup is.

Spreading your stake out across the fights has multiple benefits. First off, it gives you a rooting interest in the other bouts, and when you pay to watch a UFC event you might as well get your money’s worth, especially since the main event could be over in seconds. Betting on those earlier bouts is like taking out travel insurance on the main fight, it’s just good sense. Taking the entertainment out of it and just looking at UFC betting odds strategy, spreading your stake over multiple bouts can also help mitigate risk. So it’s a sensible thing to do if you aren’t sure which direction to go in.

UFC could be considered a successor to boxing and other combat sports, but to understand why UFC became so popular and why bettors are searching for the best UFC odds, we need to understand what sets it apart.

There’s something special about the gleaming city in the desert that is like catnip to bettors. It attracts millions of tourists each and every year, and though casinos may be the main draw, Vegas has been famous for prize fights since long before UFC.

In the 20th century boxing was one of the biggest sports on the planet, fueled by the breakout popularity of stars like Ali, Robinson and Foreman. It had long been popular and with the advent of televised matches boxing came to living rooms all over the world. You no longer needed to be attending to watch.

But since that era boxing has declined. The lack of a truly unified title, alongside the loss in viewership that comes with pay-per-view has robbed boxing of the cultural significance it once held, when a heavyweight champion like Ali was one of the biggest stars in the world. This decline left the door open for a contender, and in the 1990’s UFC stepped into the spotlight.

Early UFC was much less polished, with a goal of determining the ultimate martial arts style by pitting fighters from various disciplines against each other. Kickboxing, muay thai, Judo, wrestling and other styles came together to form UFC.

This array of different styles and fighters set UFC apart, and unlike boxing almost everything was allowed from grappling and submissions to high kicks and spinning elbows. Fighters were free to explore, with no two matchups looking the same.

Success didn’t come overnight though, tweaks to the rules like banning hair pulling and groin shots refined the sport, making it more palatable. Soon after UFC soared in popularity, with the emergence of major stars and highly rated events in the mid-2000’s. The energy and electricity in the octagon-shaped ring was unlike any other, and by the 2010’s UFC had eclipsed boxing to become the biggest combat sport in the world for sports betting and viewership. Ensuring that there has never been this much focus on finding the best UFC odds. Luckily however we track down the best UFC odds for you.

Remember that you can also change course, there are many places to go with your betting voyage. Take a stroll through some tennis betting odds, stop off to check on the basketball odds for today, or take a detour to find cricket betting odds. And even if UFC is growing, you can still wander through our boxing odds comparison at your leisure.

The verdict on UFC odds comparison

Odds comparison is a great way to locate the best UFC odds available for any event. Just remember, keep an eye out for odds destinations you like, know your strategy beforehand, and check that you’re sure you know which sportsbook you’re going with before you deposit your stake and set off on your journey.

So ultimately, there’s a lot of benefits to spending a few minutes comparing the best UFC odds before placing bets. You might not want to wander into the weeds with complex strategies, but a quick check can help you make the most of your betting adventure.

UFC Betting Odds FAQ

🥊 Why is comparing the best UFC odds worth it?

Comparing UFC betting odds is quick and easy to do and there are lots of reasons to consider it. You might want to increase your return from a specific bet, or maybe you didn’t know about a special offer that a sportsbook is running. But those are only some of the benefits of comparing UFC betting odds online. You can find the best UFC odds easily using our odds comparison tools.

🗳️ What are the most popular ways to bet on UFC events?

UFC events boast a variety of ways to bet, depending on how confident you feel and how much risk you are willing to take to prove you had it right. Each event typically has multiple fights, and every round is a chance to make a profit. You don’t have to just pick winners and losers either, there are many more ways to bet on UFC, especially with online sportsbooks.

❓ When do betting lines open for a fight?

Oddsmakers set the line for each fight once they have gathered their information and calculated the chances for each outcome. Much of this work can happen before a fight is even announced however. If a sportsbook thinks that a match is likely to happen between two fighters they will be hard at work figuring out where to set the line long before the card is set. But remember, these lines can fluctuate, so always compare odds before betting to make sure you get the best value for your money.

🧐 What makes UFC different to boxing?

There are a lot of things that set the two sports apart, from big things like what hits are legal and illegal, to the number of rounds in a fight and even the shape of the ring.
