In the latest Werder Bremen news, manager Florian Kohfeldt insists his side will not underestimate visitors FC Koln on Monday.
Koln are the Bundesliga’s bottom club and sit eight points adrift of safety but Kohfeldt believes they could yet pull clear of danger.
Bremen remain in trouble themselves as they are just two points above the bottom three and Kohfeldt has his sights set on what could be a vital three points on Monday night – but he isn’t expecting an easy ride at the Weserstadion.
“We are preparing for an opponent that is by no means done this season. Koln will throw everything at us and we need to be ready for that,” he told his club’s official website.
“Koln have played with a few different styles recently, so it’s hard to say exactly how they will line up on Monday night.
“What is clear however, is how strong they are on the counter. They have a lot of pace on the wings with players like [Marcel] Risse and [Jonas] Hector, a good target man in [Simon] Terodde and when Claudio [Pizarro] joins the party, he can unlock games with his passes, so we know they have a lot of quality in their side.”
Koln have managed just two wins on the road all season but those victories have come in their last three away games, having picked up three points at both RB Leipzig and Hamburg.
However, Bremen’s home form has been impressive and the reason they are clear of the bottom three.
Kohfeldt’s side are unbeaten since October at the Weserstadion and have managed five wins in their last eight home games.
