No one expected the Broncos to be one game back from the lead in the AFC West. However with big wins over good teams like the Cowboys and the Chargers that’s exactly where Denver finds themselves. Still it should be noted that the Broncos haven’t had a win against the Chiefs since 2015 when Peyton Manning was under center.
The Chiefs started slow with a 3-4 start to the season, but have now won four in a row and have sole possession of the top spot in the division. Unless previously years though, their offense has been hit or miss. They beat the Packers and Cowboys, but only put up 13 and 19 points respectively, then beat the Raiders two weeks ago and dropped 41 points. Even on a bad team like the Giants the Chiefs only scored 20.
Every major online sportsbook that I’ve looked at has Kansas City as big 9.5 point favorites to win this one. I agree with them that KC will win, but when betting spread take the Broncos to cover. They’ve showed their best against other good teams this season and the same can’t be said about the Chiefs.
A quick look at the numbers backs this up as Kansas City is only 4-7 against the spread this season. A big reason why is huge spreads like this one.
When looking to bet the point total, I think it’s also important to look back at the Chief recent games. I mentioned previously that their offense can show up or disappear at the drop of a hat. Well, in their last six games Kansas City games have only exceeded 47 points one single time.
Luckily for them, the Chiefs defense has improved tremendously since the beginning of the season. Somehow for the Broncos, their defense got better after they traded Von Miller. This game will be exciting, but not high scoring. Take the under.
Williams is coming off a game where he torched the Chargers for over 100 yards. There were times the bolts knew a run was coming and they still couldn’t stop it. The Chiefs D hasn’t been great against the run all year so expect more of the same from the rookie.
What will also help him get into the endzone is that Melvin Gordon may not even play. As of now the veteran back is only 50/50 to even get on the field.
