In the latest Watford news, Will Hughes says the Hornets are a “match for anyone” at Vicarage Road and the midfielder is now eyeing an upturn in results away from home.
Watford have been the surprise package of the season so far, having won all four of their Premier League matches and they head into the international break sitting third in the table.
Three of the Hornets’ wins have come at Vicarage Road – the most recent a 2-1 comeback against Tottenham Hotspur – while the sole away triumph was a 3-1 success against Burnley at Turf Moor.
That victory against the Clarets was the first time Javi Gracia’s men have picked up three points on the road since November 25 last year, bringing a 12-game away winless run to an end.
Former England Under-21 international Hughes, who has been linked with a potential call-up to the Three Lions’ senior set-up, has been impressed with the form Watford have shown in their own backyard, and he now wants this to be replicated on their travels.
“I think at home we’re a match for anyone,” he told the club’s official website. “I think we’ve shown that with our record since the gaffer’s been here.
“We’re a tough team to play against at Vicarage Road, and if we can improve that away form slightly I think we’re going to be a match for anyone.”
Watford, who are 250/1 with bet365 to win the Premier League title, return to action on September 15 when Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United make the trip to Vicarage Road.
