Fact checked by: Jesse M Cox

Team USA is off to a great start at the Olympics with 38 total medals, split across 14 gold, 14 silver, and 10 bronze.

China is right behind the US with 31 medals, while Russia and Japan are next with 28 and 25 medals.

July 28th Day 5 Recap

Women’s 3-on-3

USA picked up the gold medal in the first-ever women’s 3-3 basketball tournament.

Kelsey Plum was the difference maker as she lead Team USA with 5 points to hold off the Russian team in the gold medal game.

USA Men’s Basketball

The USA men’s basketball team got back on track to beat Iran 120-66 on Wednesday as Damian Lillard led team USA with 21 points.

Team USA will face the Czech Republic Saturday at 8 AM EST. Team USA is favored by 21 pts over the Czech squad as they look to build some momentum to continue their gold medal-winning streak that dates back to 2008.

Synchronized Swimming

Michael Hizon and Andrew Capobianco captured the silver medal in the synchronized diving event while China won Gold and Germany took home the bronze.

USA Men’s Swimming

Caeleb Dressel won an exciting 100-meter freestyle race to bring home the gold by coming out on top against 2016 Olympic gold winner Kyle Chalmers. Bobby Finke was also able to capture the 800-meter men’s freestyle gold medal by finishing his last 25 meters strong to take the lead.

July 27 Day 4 Recap

Women’s Gymnastics

One of the biggest stories from the Olympics so far was Simone Biles dropping out of the team finals due to mental health concerns. Team USA settled for the silver medal as Russia won gold, their first team gymnastics medal since 1988.

Swimming

17 year old Alaska Native Lydia Jacoby won the gold medal in a surprising fashion in the 100-meter breaststroke.

US Rugby

The US Rugby team started off strong with two consecutive wins to start off the Olympics, but dropped both matches of the doubleheader against South Africa and Great Britain. As a result, the US Squad was eliminated from medal competition. There is plenty to be excited about as the US Rugby squad is now a serious player in Olympic competitions.

US Women’s Soccer

The US women’s soccer tied Australia 0-0 to advance from group play. They have not looked sharp throughout the Olympics so far, but have won gold in 4 out of the last 5 Olympic Games.

July 26 Day 3 Recap

Men’s Gymnastics

The US men’s team finished 5th in the team final and will go home without a medal while Russia was able to win gold followed by Japan and China.

Men’s Swimming

Caeleb Dressel led the men’s team to a 4×100 meter freestyle relay gold medal as he looks to replace Michael Phelps as the face of US Swimming.

US Softball

The US softball team was a big story from day 3 as they defeated Japan to finish the qualifying round a perfect 5-0. They went on to face Japan in a rematch on Tuesday in the championship round, but lost a tough match 2-0 to finish with the silver medal.
