UFC 273 Betting Guide Volkanovski vs. The Korean Zombie

UFC 272 was entertaining, but there wasn’t much on the line besides bragging rights ultimately. For UFC 273, which takes place April 9th, there’s multiple belts up for grabs and the top online sportsbooks are already having a field day with this fight card. Headlining the event is a featherweight championship bout between current champion Alexander Volkanovski and the Korean Zombie, Chan Sung Jung.

The co-main could be just as interesting as Aljamain Sterling defends his bantamweight championship against Petr Yan in a rematch of UFC 259 where Sterling won the title by disqualification (something that had previously never happened before.)

The last fight we’ll cover today sees up and comer Khamzat Chimaev take on the former welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns in a match that will tell a lot about both fighters.

How to Bet on UFC Fights

Volkanovski (-720) vs. Korean Zombie (+500)

The first thing we should talk about here is the odds for this fight. At +500, I can’t remember the last time a title fight had odds this preposterous set by the sportsbooks. So, do I think Volkanovski will win this fight? Yes. Do I think the Aussie is really this much better than his opponent? No.

I would never suggest taking anyone at -720, and to be honest, I think the Korean Zombie is a lot better than the +500 odds he’s getting from most online sports betting sites. So with that being said, I’d recommend staying away from the moneyline.

Instead, take a look at Volkanovski to win by decision at -150. He’s a decent striker, but only has three knockouts in his ten fights in the UFC, all against fighters whose names you might not even recognize. The Korean Zombie is known as a tough fighter with a tough jaw, so while I see Volk remaining the champ, I don’t see him dropping the Zombie.

If you want to drop some cash on the Korean Zombie, you might as well go for it and take him to win by KO at +1200. Crazier things have happened in the UFC.

Sterling (+340) vs. Yan (-450)

Another big gap in the spread here from MMA odds sites, especially considering Sterling at +340 is the current champion, but hey, I guess that’s what happens when you’re awarded the belt after a disqualification via illegal knee.

In the original fight back at UFC 259 Petr Yan was coasting to a win over Sterling before the illegal knee took the belt away from him. I see this being the case again, but am never a fan of betting when someone is such a huge favorite like Yan is here at -450.

Instead, look to take Petr Yan to win by KO/TKO/DQ at +150, the fight to go under 4.5 rounds at +100, and Yan to win by KO in Round 3 at +1000 if you’re feeling really frisky.

Burns (+375) vs. (Chimaev -510)

Many are just excited about this fight as they are for either of the co-mains as former welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns takes on one of the hottest young names in UFC in Khamzat Chimaev. “Borz” is a perfect 10-0 in his MMA career, his fights have never gone to a decision, and only one of his four UFC fights even made it into the second round.

Most of the top UFC betting sites are predicting an easy victory for Chimaev, but he’s never fought someone with the same repertoire as Gilbert Burns though. The 35 year old Brazilian has only lost one fight in his last nine and that was to the UFC pound for pound champ, Kamaru Usman. Chimaev has a chance to prove here that he is the real deal and I think that’s exactly what he’ll do. Take him to win in the second round at +450, and think about taking him to finish it in the second via KO at +750 as well.
