A week removed from UFC 267 and we’re already onto UFC 268. This Saturday we see the “Nigerian Nightmare,” Kamaru Usman defend his Welterweight title for a fifth time vs. “Chaos” Colby Covington. Fans of the UFC will remember the first time these two fought in UFC 245. There’s another title match on tap, another rematch from UFC 261 in which two-time Strawweight champ Rose Namajunas will see defend her title from former champion Zhang Weili. Get the best odds on every fight happening this weekend with our UFC odds comparison tool. With this tool you can see the odds for every fight and compare them across multiple sportsbooks at once.
In December 2019 these two originally met in the octagon for a legendary match which saw both men do their best to pummel each other with strikes. Ultimately Usman broke Covington’s jaw and won the fight in fifth round. That fight launched Usman into the upper echelon of UFC fighters and he hasn’t looked back since.
He now holds a win streak of 14 fights and since fighting Covington beat Jorge Masvidal twice and Gilbert Burns in between those two. Covington has only fought a single time since the defeat, and was able to finish Tyron Woodley in the fifth round. This rematch is a good one that the fans and Covington alike have wanted for a long time.
The scariest thing to think about is how much better Usman has gotten since their first fight. He only finished two of his first ten opponents before facing Covington. Including their first fight Usman has KO’d his opponents in three of his last four. The champ has always been an amazing wrestler, which is why he was a college All-American and National Champion. The fact that he’s a top striker now should have Covington and any other Welterweight scared. Usman will dictate this fight along with how it gets fought.
The truth is that Covington isn’t a powerful enough striker to KO Usman with one punch or even a combination. Colby’s a good wrestler, but Usman is better. The only way “Chaos” wins therefore is by surviving all five rounds and landing more strikes. This is a long shot, and is exactly why you should take Usman to defend his championship via (T)KO (+150).
UFC 268’s Co-Main is a rematch in which both fighters square off again directly after their previous fights against each other. When these two met in UFC 261 Namajunas landed a left kick square to Zhang’s jaw 78 seconds into the match. It sent Zhang to mat where and the championship fight was over second later.
With so little to take away from the first fight, it can be hard to predict what will happen in this one. We do know that up to this last fight, Zhang had been dominant in her career and won 21 fights in a row. She has relentless aggression and drive. She goes straight at her opponent and doesn’t stop until their finished on the mat. This is contrasted with Rose, who is more of a smooth fighter who uses her length to keep her distance when striking.
Maybe it shouldn’t be a surprise that Zhang is currently the favorite to win this fight (-120), as seen by the favorable odds given to her by all of our online sportsbooks. It’s unlikely that this fight will end in submission and the most likely outcome here is another win by (T)KO. I think Zhang take the second fight by (T)KO (+330) and sets up a third match between these two.
