In the latest Tottenham news, boss Mauricio Pochettino insists his side are going to be even better than they were last season despite their lack of signings.
Pochettino’s men once again failed to win a trophy in 2017-18, losing in the FA Cup semi-finals for the second straight year, this time to Manchester United.
Spurs have regularly qualified for the Champions League over the last few campaigns and made the headlines last year when they beat Real Madrid.
The Argentinean failed to make any additions in the summer window and will have to make do with his current squad in the 2018-19 campaign.
World Cup participation means the Lilywhites will be without a number of their stars for their opening Premier League game at Newcastle on Saturday.
Spurs are 11/10 to win the game with bet365 and will be hoping to launch their season in style.
Pochettino’s side have finished inside the top three in the last three years and he believes his team’s experience can match the spending of their title rivals.
He told Sky Sports: “I am happy to keep all the squad together. The club made a massive effort to try and extend contracts of Harry Kane, just one example. The club is trying to finish the (new) stadium as soon as possible.
“It is difficult to understand for people in football that Tottenham didn’t sign or didn’t sell players – but sometimes in football, you need to behave different.
“(There is) no point to say we will not repeat a season like last year or the season before with more experience, with players who compete at the high level of the World Cup.
“Sure, we are going to be better, no doubt about that. I believe in the way that we work and I have no doubt we will be competitive, with or without signings.”
