In the latest Tottenham news, it has been confirmed that midfielder Erik Lamela has signed a contract extension that runs until 2022.
With the north Londoners set to move into their new stadium, there is excitement at the club and the Argentine has followed Heung-Min Son’s lead in committing his long-term future to the Lilywhites.
Lamela made 33 appearances last season and is set to play a key role in Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the upcoming campaign when Spurs will try to cut the gap to last season’s runaway Premier League champions Manchester City.
In a video on Tottenham’s official Twitter feed, Lamela said: “I am delighted to sign a new contract. I hope to see you next season in the stadium. I can’t wait.”
There have been no signings this summer to date, with Pochettino keeping his powder dry at present, although Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish is said to be on their radar.
Pochettino’s squad will soon compete in the International Champions Cup, with matches against AS Roma (San Diego), Barcelona (Los Angeles) and AC Milan (Minneapolis) as they fine-tune their preparations for the big kick-off away to Newcastle United on Saturday, August 11.
Wing-back Kieran Trippier will be on the trip but is reportedly being targeted by Spanish giants Real Madrid following his fine displays for England at the World Cup.
The 27-year-old was one of the Three Lions’ standout players in Russia as Gareth Southgate’s men made it to the semi-finals.
Reports claim Real are keen on the former Burnley man and are preparing to make an offer in the region of £50million for his services.
It remains to be seen if Spurs would let him leave, with Trippier under contract at White Hart Lane until the summer of 2022.
Tottenham are 14/1 with Paddy Power to win the Premier League, with City the 8/13 favourites to make it back-to-back titles.
