Tottenham news: Davies confident of cup progress

In the latest Tottenham news, Ben Davies is confident his side have enough quality to beat Manchester United in next month’s FA Cup semi-finals.

Spurs booked their place in the last four of this season’s competition with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Swansea last weekend and they will now face United at Wembley on April 21.

It is the second season in a row that Mauricio Pochettino’s team have made it through to the semi-finals, but they will be hoping to avoid a repeat of last year’s result, when they were beaten 4-2 by London rivals Chelsea and missed out on a place in the final.

Indeed, Spurs have not reached an FA Cup final since they last won the competition in 1991 and have a terrible recent record when making it through the semi-finals of the tournament, losing on the last seven occasions they have played in the last four.

Despite history not being on their side, full-back Davies is confident his team can book their place in the final this year, particularly as they know Wembley very well having played all their home games at the venue this season.

“I was a bit late finding out the draw as I was on the flight when it was made,” Davies said. “It will be a bit strange (in the away dressing room), but we’ve played there enough this year that it’s going to feel relatively like a home game.”

Tottenham also secured a highly-impressive 2-0 victory over United when the two teams last met in the Premier League at the end of January and Davies believes that result will stand them in good stead.

He added: “We played well against United earlier in the season (2-0 home win on January 31), so we’re very confident going into the game.”

Spurs have not won a trophy of any kind since claiming League Cup glory in 2008 and there has been a lot of talk that the current squad need to win a tournament soon.

Victory over United would move them closer to ending their trophy drought, with either Chelsea or Southampton waiting in the final.
