Many believe that the sports equinox is the best day for sports betting and sports. It’s a day when all four major sports are playing on the same day. But I have a different opinion.
The best day of 2022 for sports will be this Saturday, May 7th. On Saturday, UFC 274, the Kentucky Derby, NHL playoffs, NBA playoffs and Formula 1’s Miami Grand Prix will all be on display. Oh and did I mention There will also be a big boxing matchup between Canelo Alvarez and Dmitry Bivol?
Brawling, horses and cars, ice and hardwood, all happen on the same day. As always we’re here to help you make the most out of the biggest days, so stay tuned as we breakdown the top sports days of the year on May 7th. With this many opportunities to win, you’re going to want to check out some of the best betting offers to take your wins to the next level.
This article could easily run over an hour if I went into great detail about each of these events. You can find videos and articles covering all of these events on our site so we will mainly be skimming over each event, starting with UFC 274.
UFC 274 will feature a lightweight championship fight between Charles Oliveira, current champ, and Justin Gaethje (previous interim champ). Gaethje is the underdog at +145. However, at -165 Oliveira, it isn’t an overwhelming favorite to win this bout.
This card also features a rematch of the women’s strawweight championship between Rose Namajunas, who is currently the champion, and Carla Esparza, who was previously the champion. They first met seven years ago, when Esparza beat Namajunas by submission in round three.
The best online sports betting sites believe things will change this time as Namajunas is a huge favorite at -200 while Esparza is the underdog, at +170.
We move on to the Kentucky Derby, the first stop in the Triple Crown. Twenty horses will be competing in the race for the for the crown. Epicenter is currently the favorite in this yearβs race and has odds of winning at 5 to 1. Many prefer the odds of Un Ojo, a 130 to 1 one-eyed horse with two wins and two second places in seven races.
Charge It is another horse worth considering. He currently has odds of 20 to 1, but won his maiden race at Gulfstream Park by 8 and a quarter lengths.
We know of one matchup between horses and hardwood that will take place on the 7th. It’s the third game of the Celtics-vs. The Bucks series will be played in Milwaukee. After their sweep of Brooklyn Nets, the Celtics are the favorites to win the series. However, at +155, I believe the smart money is on Giannis or the Bucks so go to one of top bookmakers and take the underdog to move on.
The NHL playoffs begin on May 2nd. While we don’t yet know who will play on the 7th, I am sure there will be plenty of exciting matchups. After winning 56 of 80 games, the Avalanche are +350 favorites to win it all.
If I have to pick a long shot to bring home Lord Stanley’s Cup, it’s the Tampa Bay Lightning at +1100.
The Tampa Bay’s cold ice may be used to host a playoff match, but the asphalt south of Miami will be hot for the Miami Grand Prix. Max Verstappen is the favorite at +100, while Charles Leclerc is the favourite at +120.
Red Bull has a history of struggling in heat, while Leclerc will be getting a new engine for this race. Sergio Perez is another name that I love. He could win you lots of cash at +1200.
The last and possibly largest event on May 7th is the massive boxing match between Canelo Avarez and Dmitry Bivol. Alvarez currently holds -425 odds and many predict that this will be an easy win.
I would advise you to avoid betting the moneyline on this fight. You would be better off taking Canelo to win the fight by KO, TKO at +240, or by decision at +135.
There you have it. This article contains all the major events that took place on Saturday, May 7th. What event are you most looking forward to? Comment below to let me know.
