In the latest Southampton news, Mark Hughes has urged his players to move on from Sunday’s FA Cup defeat and insists the Premier League meeting with Bournemouth is a must win.
Saints, who are priced at 2/5 to be relegated with BetBright, have struggled for consistency in the league all season but their run in the FA Cup has provided some light relief.
Unfortunately their FA Cup campaign was ended on Sunday when they were beaten 2-0 by Chelsea in the semi-final at Wembley.
Olivier Giroud and Alavero Morata both netted at the national stadium to set-up a showdown with Manchester United in the final next month.
Southampton’s attention now turns to the Premier League where they remain in a relegation scrap with just four games left to play.
They currently occupy 18th place and are four points adrift of safety ahead of Saturday’s clash with Bournemouth at St Mary’s.
Hughes is yet to pick up a victory in the Premier League since being appointed as Mauricio Pellegrino’s successor in March, having lost three and drawn one.
However, he admits that must change this weekend if they are to have any hope of retaining their top-flight status for 2018-19.
The Welshman revealed his frustration at not making it through to the final of the FA Cup but insists it is crucial his men now dust themselves down and re-focus on their responsibilities in the Premier League.
Hughes said: “We have disappointment because we haven’t progressed in the competition but we have to put it behind us very quickly because we have a huge game next weekend against Bournemouth at home where we need to win.
“It’s quite clear from our point of view, there are no grey areas, it’s black and white we need to win.”
