In the latest Sevilla news, Vincenzo Montella still believes his side can progress through to the last four of the Champions League despite their 2-1 home defeat to Bayern Munich in the first-leg of their quarter-final tie.
Los Rojiblancos performed well throughout the contest at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan and they took the lead in the 32nd minute thanks to a goal from Pablo Sarabia.
However, Montella’s side were not able to hold onto that advantage, although there was an element of misfortune about both the goals they conceded, as the first one was an own goal from Jesus Navas, while the second was a header from Thiago Alcantara that was deflected in off Sergio Escudero.
Sevilla now face an uphill task if they are to turn the tie around in Munich next week, but Montella saw enough from his side during Tuesday’s contest to suggest they still have hope.
“We will play with same pride or even more,” the Italian said. “The impossible things might become possible if you believe, and I still believe. Surely, our percentage of options is low but we will play it.”
Despite his confidence, Montella believes Sevilla’s task should already be a lot easier, as he feels they should be heading to the Allianz Arena with the tie still being level at the very least.
“I don’t think we were lucky,” he added. “I am pleased for my players as they played an excellent game against a great opponent. We deserved something else.”
Sevilla only have to look at their 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in the previous round as an example that they can turn the tie around and they are 13/1 with 10Bet to reach the semi-finals.
Indeed, the Andalusians have only lost two of their last nine away games in the Champions League, although one of those defeats was a 5-1 hammering at the hands of Spartak Moscow earlier this season.
