In the latest AS Roma news, manager Eusebio Di Francesco insists his side can continue their Champions League adventure despite defeat at Shakthar Donetsk in the first leg.
Roma trail 2-1 after a first-leg defeat in the Ukraine but Di Francesco remains upbeat on their chances of securing a quarter-final spot.
The Giallorossi have won both of their fixtures since, a 4-2 win at Scudetto hopefuls Napoli and a 3-0 win over Torino, and Di Francesco believes his side are in good form ahead of the European date in Rome.
The former Sassuolo boss admits Shakthar have plenty of quality in their side, particularly in attack, but he is confident Roma can get the result they need to progress.
“Today’s win shows that we’ve cleared the hurdle now,” he told reporters after the win over Torino. “We had lots of corners and free kicks today but I don’t think we’re fully exploiting our ability – either because we’re not accurate or we’re not incisive.
“We’re going to need 12 men on Tuesday. I believe the crowd will have a crucial role to play against Shakhtar.”
He added: “I think we need to hold our shape better – that’s fundamental if we want to grow as a team. There were lots of times where we lost our shape.
“Shakhtar are a Brazilian team in attack but I’m sure we’ll be able to cause them problems too because we’re looking sharper again. Seven goals in two games [against Napoli and Torino] is good going and it’s great for the lads’ confidence.”
Shakthar also head into Tuesday’s Champions League clash in good form and have won all three of their games since beating Roma, scoring 11 goals without conceding in the process.
