A video went viral on social media that captured the moment of the former coach of the Duke Blue Devils basketball team, Mike Krzyzewski. He was seen enjoying his retirement by playing a slot machine.
The video was first uploaded as an Instagram story before being published on Twitter by the Bleacher Report betting account on Saturday afternoon.
Coach K was seen playing the slot machine and was unaware of the camera that was capturing the moment. It wasn’t until the cameraman got closer to him that the 75-year-old realized his presence and noticed the phone that he was holding.
The man behind the camera immediately turned the phone and asked if Coach K had any luck playing the machine, to which he didn’t give any response.
The 22-second video gained various responses from people on the internet, where the majority tweeted about how the coach spent his time during retirement. Action Network HQ tweeted, “Coach K seems to be enjoying retirement.”
On the other hand, there were also some who were concerned about the coach’s privacy too. A Twitter handle with the username @BrianConey said, “No hello? No hey coach? Just straight camera to the face. Wish Coach K had knocked him out.”
Coach K retired after a 47-year head-coaching career, 42 of which he spent at Duke. He also won 1,202 games, becoming the Division I all-time wins leader. Coach K has five national championships and 13 Final Four appearances in NCAA history.
In early June, Duke University announced Krzyzewski’s retirement after the 2021-22 season. Upon his retirement, the Blue Devils are now under the guidance of Jon Scheyer, whom Krzyzewski personally chose to replace him.
Duke will kick off their 2022-23 season against Jacksonville on November 7 at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
While some may expect Coach K to attend Duke home games, he has stated that he would remain involved in the sport but has no intentions to attend the games next season.
