In the latest Real Madrid news, winger Lucas Vazquez says the club have enough quality players to make a challenge for honours this season.
Madrid have lost their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus for a £95 million fee, and have not replaced him as of yet.
They have been linked with several high profile players to fill the void, with the Neymar rumours refusing to go away.
Eden Hazard and Kylian Mbappe have also been linked with moves to the Bernabeu to replace the 33-year-old Portugal international.
Madrid have only brought in one player so far this summer in 18-year-old attacking midfielder Vinicius Junior, who seems likely to be used as a squad player as he adjusts to life in La Liga.
However, Vazquez, who was the most used player for the club last season, is convinced that they have the depth of squad to challenge Barcelona for the title this season, with Bet365 installing Real Madrid at 6/4 behind the champions at 3/4.
“We have a great squad who are shaping up well for the new season,” Vazquez is quoted as saying by Cadena Cope.
“All the players at this club are at an extremely high level and we are enjoying a strong pre-season, the training is very good.
“My own place in the team? It is up to every player to give their maximum and to convince the Coach, who then has decision to make.
“For me it was great to be captain for a few minutes (against Juventus), for someone to have come through the youth system here and to be entrusted in that way is an honour.”
