NFL Offseason Review

This offseason there have been a lot of players on the move via trade, free agency, and retirement (or coming out of retirement *cough Tom Brady). The two biggest moves for signal callers were the Broncos acquiring Russell Wilson for a bevy of draft picks and a few players like TE Noah Fant, and DeShaun Watson becoming the QB for the Browns for lots of draft picks as well. The Broncos and Browns have gone all in on trying to make a Super Bowl run.

Other news follows the chain effect of Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders, while Matt Ryan will call the plays for the Colts. This leaves Marcus Mariota as the penciled in starter for the Falcons. Jameis Winston resigns with the Saints and should start again, while the remaining free agents seem to have signed deals as backups.

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill is now a Miami Dolphin, and Davante Adams will catch the ball from his former college QB Derek Carr in Las Vegas. The Raiders also signed star linebacker Chandler Jones. Lastly, linebacker Von Miller will now be a Bill, while Bobby Wagner will go to the division-rival Rams.

The NFL Draft

Who Will Go First Overall?

OT Evan Neal, Alabama +1200

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be first on the clock, and trade back as they could benefit from multiple first picks. If the Jaguars do take the first pick overall, they are likely to go offensive line to protect their sophomore quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Evan Neal out of Alabama is the obvious choice since he can play guard as well. Other top blockers like Ekwonu (+1200) and Cross (+5000) are more typical tackles, which the Jaguars invested in already. If they traded down they could draft a top linebacker and still get a solid guard like Zion Johnson.

DE Aidan Hutchinson, Michigan -250

Hutchinson is probably the best talent in the draft this year, thus why he has the best odds to go number one overall. The Jaguars could take Hutchinson and try to convert one of their lineman to a linebacker, but that seems less likely. If the Jaguars keep the first pick, Hutchinson will probably land to the Lions with the second pick overall. However, a trade for the first pick overall is more than possible with Hutchinson on the table. Use the best football odds throughout the season to bet on whichever team Hutchinson lands on.

QB Malik Willis, Liberty +3000

More often than not it feels like teams will try and move up to the first pick to take a quarterback. This year’s class has great edge rushers, wide receivers, and offensive tackles, but a weaker tier of quarterbacks. Willis feels like the most obvious choice of first overall quarterback (-200), with his rushing abilities and solid arm. It may be a testament to how many teams need a quarterback (Panthers, Seahawks, Falcons, Steelers & Lions all in desperate need), but there is a world where Willis could go number one based on supply and demand.

Second Overall Pick

DE Aidan Hutchinson, Michigan +260

If the Jaguars go offensive line, or a team trades up for a quarterback, it seems like a given that Hutchinson will go second overall. The Lions are almost guaranteed to pick up a DE, as they have the worst defensive line in football.

First Quarterback Selected

Sam Howell, North Carolina +2000

Howell has been climbing up draft boards, and if the Carolina Panthers take the first QB with the 6th pick in the draft, why not go for the home grown kid?

Kenny Pickett, Pitt +200

Pickett has one of the best arms in the class, but is not a mobile quarterback. Depending on the system, Pickett could fit a certain team’s needs (like the Steelers).
