We are already almost a third of the way through the College Football season which may be difficult to accept for college football fans. The college season zooms by, should give fans extra motivation to get out to a tailgate or take a road trip to support their favorite college team.
Let’s take a look back at the highlights from week 3 and look ahead to the top matchups this week
Penn State had a big win for the Big 10 over Auburn
The Big 10 has been the brunt of many jokes over the years from SEC schools when it comes to their ability to compete on the big stage.
Penn State helped quiet some of the doubters with a big win at home over Auburn 28-20. Penn State looks like a real contender for the College Football Playoff with the way they are playing, but they have a couple of tough road tests coming up at Iowa and Ohio State over the next month.
Alabama narrowly got by Florida on the road, but they showed some holes on defense which may give some hope to the other contenders in the conference. Alabama faces Southern Miss this weekend, but then will face two top 10 SEC teams in Ole Miss and Texas A&M, and I would not be shocked to see Alabama lose one of these games.
Michigan State and Michigan are both 3-0
Michigan State and Michigan have both gotten off to strong starts to the year and look like contenders in the Big10. With Ohio State looking like they may have a down year, both schools may have a legit shot to beat the Buckeyes.
Michigan State went on the road to 24th ranked Miami and came away with a 38-17 win, while Michigan put up 63 points over Northern Illinois and is also 3-0.
We do not have any top 10 matchups this week but there are some games with interesting storylines that could paint pictures of how the conference standings will shake out.
Notre Dame vs. Wisconsin (-6.5)
Wisconsin faces Notre Dame at Soldier Field in a big game for the Irish, who need the win to help their chances for a College Football Playoff spot at the end of the year. With Clemson, Alabama, and Ohio state facing down years, the Irish could take up one of the CFP spots after the SEC and Big10 schools beat up on one another.
Pick: Notre Dame to Win
Arkansas faces Texas A&M in a big SEC West matchup
The Aggies and Razorbacks face off at Jerry World for a big SEC West showdown. Both teams have looked good in the first few weeks and A&M is a 5.5 point favorite. I like Arkansas to cover the spread in this game and the game to be very close as both teams match up well with one another.
Pick: Arkansas to Win
Greg Schiano has Rutgers rolling at 3-0 and back as they face a big road test at Michigan. The Wolverines are favored by 20 and I think this is too big of a number for the Scarlet Knights. I’d head to Karamba Sport’s sportbook and take Michigan to pull away late in front of their home crowd.
Pick: Rutgers to Cover, Michigan to Win
We have a new leader in the Heisman race as Matt Corral is now the odds on favorite at (+210) after a big game at home vs. Tulane. Ole Miss heads on the road to Alabama in two weeks so the winner of this matchup could be a good indication of who will end up with the Heisman between Corral and Alabama QB Bryce Young (+250).
Spencer Rattler from Oklahoma has fallen back to (+1800) as the Sooners have looked sloppy on offense, but they head into the bulk of their conference schedule soon and Rattler should put up big numbers throughout the rest of the season.
