We have another full week of NBA action this week with some exciting games on tap. The Warriors snapped their 7 game win streak last night against the up-and-coming Charlotte Hornets, who are led by the likely next face of the NBA in Lonzo Ball.
The Bucks have struggled out of the gates this year and sit at 6-8, while the Nets have been impressive in the Eastern Conference despite not having Kyrie Irving due to his refusal to get vaccinated. Kevin Durant is the favorite to take home the MVP
We have some big matchups this week highlighted by the Warriors vs. Nets on Tuesday night which will give Kevin Durant a shot to beat his old team at home. Durant looks like the MVP frontrunner but there are concerns about the Nets depth if Harden or Durant would have to miss time.

The Eastern Conference has been top-heavy over the last 10 years or so but we are finally starting to see some balance and multiple teams this year have the talent to make it to the Finals. Let’s take a look at some of the contenders.
The Heat hope to get back to the finals again as they did in the 2019-20 season but will have to get through a tougher Eastern Conference this year with the Nets, Bucks, Bulls, and 76ers all in contention and capable of making a run. The Heat added veteran Kyle Lowry this offseason and he should be a big piece later in the year when the Heat enters the playoffs. Lowry was instrumental in the Raptors 2019 NBA title run and could be the missing piece that could help the Heat win the title this year.
The Heat have lost 4 in a row since they lost Joel Embiid for 5 games due to Covid protocols but still should be in the mix all year. Before Embiid went down the Sixers were playing great basketball at a better tempo than previous years led by Steph Curry and Tobias Harris. The Sixers will likely trade Ben Simmons before the All-Star break this season which should net them additional roster pieces that can make a big impact this year.
Kevin Durant is looking like his old self and is averaging 29 points per game while James Harden is also playing great basketball so far this season. It will be interesting to monitor what happens with Kyrie Irving throughout the year and the Nets should either get him back or trade him to a team that is in a state with less restrictive Covid rules. Keep an eye out or the Mavericks to make a move for Irving as he seems like he would be a great fit for their roster and he would be playing in a division that has few Covid restrictions amongst the teams so he would be able to play in the majority of the games.
The Warriors are back atop the Western Conference standings
The Warriors are back at the top of the Western Conference standings at sitting at 11-2. Steph Curry and Draymond Green are meshing well with the young athletic roster and the Warriors are still without Klay Thomspon, who they should be getting back sometime in the next month. The Warriors will be tough to beat if Thompson is close to anywhere he used to be as a player before his knee injury.
The Suns have had some off-the-court drama surrounding owner Robert Sarver, but they have been able to focus on the court and are winners of 8 in a row and sit at 9-3. The Suns and Warriors look like they have the best rosters in the West at this point and it wouldn’t be that big of a surprise if we get a Western Conference Finals matchup between these squads.
Kristaps Porzingis is finally healthy and has given the Mavericks a solid 1-2 punch with Luka Doncic. Tim Hardaway Jr. an Jalen Brunson has been solid role players both averaging over 14 PPG and the Mavs will likely be players before the deadline and try and bring in one more impact player to help the Mavs make a playoff run.
