Monmouth Park continues its tradition of rewarding the connections of a horse with a bonus of $1 million if the horse goes on to win the three most important races that are still scheduled for the racing calendar in 2022.
All you need to do is win the Grade 1 Haskell Stakes, the Grade 1 Travers Stakes, and the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic.
The Haskell, the biggest race at Monmouth Park, is on July 23. The Whitney and the Travers are the two biggest races at Saratoga. The Travers is on August 27. The Breeders’ Cup Classic will be held at Keeneland on November 5.
It’s tough, especially with such a large 3-year-old class. Since 3-year-olds can’t run in the Haskell and Travers, only sophomores can win bonuses. Older Classic horses like Flightline and Life Is Good to improve the odds of obtaining this prize.
Flightline is America’s champion, Thoroughbred. Tapit’s 4-year-old colt won the Metropolitan Handicap on the Belmont Stakes undercard. He’s a Breeders’ Cup Classic mainstay. Life Is Good will race in the Grade 2 John A. Nerud Stakes next weekend.
Most of the top 3-year-olds from the Kentucky Derby, including Rich Strike, Epicenter, Zandon, Belmont Stakes winner Mo Donegal, and Preakness Stakes winner Early Voting, are projected to race in the Haskell, Travers, or both. Cyberknife won the Arkansas Derby for trainer Brad Cox.
Cyberknife won the Grade 3, Matt Winn, at Churchill Downs this month.
The bonus isn’t inaccessible. Authentic won the Haskell, Derby, and Breeders’ Cup Classic two years ago. Due to the pandemic, the Kentucky Derby was on Sept. 5.
Monmouth Park sponsored the bonus through BetMakers. Both organizations teamed up to introduce fixed odds to America. Monmouth Park is the only US track with regulated odds.
BetMakers head of international operations Dallas Baker praised this joint collaboration with Monmouth Park.
“It’s great to continue to support creative initiatives from Monmouth Park as Monmouth Park continues to innovate in the racing space,” Baker said. “Hopefully, we can see the bonus handed out again, just like when Authentic earned it.”
