Week 13 is almost finished, but not before the AFC East’s top team clash for the division lead as the 7-4 Buffalo Bills face the 8-4 New England Patriots on Monday Night Football. We’ll break down the matchup and give you some advice on how to bet the spread, points, and props like anytime touchdown scorer. The Patriots may be the hottest team in the NFL right now and have won six straight, but it’s the Bills who are 2.5 point favorites at home for this game.
The Patriots are known for the defense every year under Head Coach Bill Belichick, but don’t let that distract from how good their offense has been. During their six game win streak New England is averaging 36.3 points per game which leads the NFL. Yes, two of those games were against the Jets and Falcons, but still they put down 36 points on the Titans, 45 on the Browns, and 27 on the Chargers. Mac Jones, rookie quarterback out of Alabama, has embraced his role as a game manager, avoided turning the ball over, and unsurprisingly is now the favorite from all of the top online sportsbooks to win offensive rookie of the year.
Buffalo was tapped in the preseason by many to run away with the AFC East crown, but it hasn’t worked out that way. They’ve struggle on offense to score consistently, and have only beaten one team all season that currently has a winning record. They can show up and score 43 points against a good Washington Football Team defense, or muster only six for an entire game vs. Jacksonville.
Josh Allen fantasy owners know the struggle that the third year QB has had on his way to a 47 touchdown, but 14 turnover season. I think tonight’s game in Buffalo, vs. their rivals is just the game Buffalo needs to get back on track. Take the Bills to cover the 2.5 points.
Although both teams have offenses that can score big, they also have the number one and two ranked defenses in the league. Therefore it’s no surprise that the point total sits at a low 42.5. With a red hot Patriots offense and a Bills offense that is primed for an explosion it’s an easy bet to take the over in this one.
One caveat that needs to be pointed out is the weather. A storm is predicted for tonight Foxborough that could bring heavy wind and rain. If this is the case it is likely that both teams will be forced to run the ball more often and the passing game will be less effective. Check the weather closer to kickoff and take the under if conditions are bad.
The honest truth is I need Stefon Diggs to have a bad game Monday Night. He’s on my opponents fantasy roster. Still, I have to admit that Diggs is one of the top young wideouts in the league, and the chances of him stinking it up in primetime are unlikely.
The 28 year old has hit his stride in the last two months and now has six touchdowns in the last six games. QB Josh Allen has been hyper targeting him at times to the tune of 11 and 13 targets. If the Bills win it will be because Diggs has a big game and finds his way into the endzone at least once.
