In the latest Manchester United news, defender Chris Smalling wants his side to build on their recent return to form when they visit Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Red Devils looked out of sorts at the start of the season, winning only won one of their opening three Premier League games but they have responded well in recent weeks with back-to-back away successes over Burnley and Watford.
United will now turn their attention to the Champions League when they take on the Swiss champions in Bern and they are priced at 7/10 with bet365 to emerge from the Stade de Suisse with all three points.
Smalling is certainly confident United can kick off their European campaign with a victory and knows it is an important time to start building momentum, as they also have important games to come in the Premier League and Carabao Cup over the next few weeks.
“On the back of two away wins, I think we can build that momentum at a crucial time of the month where there are so many games,” he told the club’s official website.
United’s troubles were highlighted following back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Tottenham in August, but Smalling believes the team have proved they have the right mentality following their return to winning ways.
Speaking of the team’s mentality, he added: “I think it has definitely come together in the last couple of games.
“Obviously, Burnley was comfortable through the whole game; the first half [against Watford] was comfortable and the second was about digging in when we knew we weren’t always going to have it our own way, but all credit to all 11 players out there.”
