In the latest Manchester United news, goalkeeper David de Gea insists his main priority is to return the Red Devils to the top of both the English and European game.
United have struggled to find their feet since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, although they have shown signs of life under Jose Mourinho this season, as they currently sit second in the Premier League standings, while they will take on Chelsea in next month’s FA Cup final.
Mourinho also guided the Red Devils to both League Cup and Europa League glory last season and de Gea believes the Portuguese is the right man to guide United back to the top of both the domestic and European game.
“I want to win,” de Gea told the Daily Mail. “If you are at United, you need a manager with a winning mentality. We had that with Ferguson. Mourinho has it. He wants to win every game.
“Titles are what I crave. We have to get United back to their best, back in the Champions League, back as the champions of England, back to the top.”
De Gea, who was recently included in the PFA Team of the Year for the fourth successive season, has been consistently linked with a move to Real Madrid over recent years, but he remains committed to achieving success with United.
“I’m playing well, I’m confident but I have to maintain it and win trophies,” the 27-year-old added. “That’s what world-class players do.”
Winning the FA Cup would certainly give the Red Devils something to build on going into the next season and the Red Devils are priced at 6/4 with William Hill to go on and beat Chelsea in next month’s final at Wembley Stadium.
