In the latest Manchester City news, boss Pep Guardiola has stressed the importance of getting Raheem Sterling’s new contract sorted out.
The England international has emerged as one of City’s most crucial players this season and his exploits appear to have convinced Guardiola he is deserving of new terms.
Sterling has bagged 15 goals and laid on seven assists to help City to open up a healthy lead at the top of the Premier League table. He appears to have taken to Guardiola’s coaching style and is one of the first names on the teamsheet.
The 23-year-old, who signed from Liverpool in the summer of 2015 for £44million, is currently contracted to City until 2020.
However, Guardiola doesn’t want to risk losing flying winger and is desperate to get negotiations wrapped up as soon as possible.
Guardiola said: “In terms of contracts, I’m not the guy, it’s Txiki [Begiristain, director of football] who’s talking about that.
“No doubts, it’s so important. But you know the deals are the deals. The agents and many circumstances, maybe other clubs are interested in him. Anything can happen, but he knows how important he is to us.”
City can be backed at 4/11 to pick up a win with bet365 when they travel to Everton on Saturday and victory at Goodison Park would leave them requiring just one more win to secure the 2017-18 Premier League title.
The league leaders could complete the job the following week when they host rivals Manchester United and that would then allow them to put their full focus on the Champions League.
