In the latest Manchester City news, coach Pep Guardiola has hinted there could be an overhaul of his playing squad and staff this summer.
Guardiola’s men secured their Premier League title win last weekend after rivals Manchester United fell to a defeat to West Brom at Old Trafford.
City have cruised this year but the Spaniard is already preparing for the 2018-19 campaign as he tries to help his players become the first side to retain the Premier League title since rivals United in 2009.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe and Bayern Munich’s Thiago Alcantara are both reportedly on his transfer wishlist and the former Bayern coach insists changes could be on the horizon.
He told Sky Sports News: “I am sure the other teams are preparing better to beat us because we are the champions and if we stop then they are going to catch us.
“We have an amazing group of guys, but you can lose it. I don’t know how we are going to react after winning the Premier League, even myself.
“Football changes in nothing. In the next five minutes we are going to see how we react to the success. It is a good test for all of us.”
Several members of City’s squad will now be looking to impress in the final few games although Sergio Aguero will play no part after knee surgery this week.
The Argentina striker is set to be fit for the World Cup before then returning to City in time for another title push.
Guardiola added: “Here, yes. It is four or five weeks [out]. Hopefully he is going to be ready for the World Cup and he will be ready for the next season.
“He is in Barcelona right now, for the first part of the rehabilitation he is going to be there.”
City are 8/11 with Betway to retain their Premier League crown next season.
