In the latest Liverpool news, defender Virgil van Dijk claims the Reds should be able to challenge for trophies on a number of fronts this season due to the current quality of the squad at Anfield.
The Reds, who are 4/1 with bet365 to win the Premier League this term, came on leaps and bounds last season under manager Jurgen Klopp and even managed to reach the final of the Champions League, only to lose in the showpiece event to Real Madrid.
With the likes of Fabinho, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shiqiri and Alisson making the move to Anfield this summer, expectation levels are high on Merseyside for Liverpool to end their six-year wait for silverware.
Former Southampton defender Van Dijk is full of confidence ahead of the new campaign and the Dutch international believes this team under Klopp can make it a season to remember for the Reds faithful.
“With the players we have and we had already last season we can compete in every competition,” Van Dijk told Sky Sports News.
“Hopefully we are going to do something special this year. I don’t like to look too far ahead – we just need to do the talking on the pitch and make sure we perform well.
“Everyone in the squad wants to win something. We know it is going to be a very hard season.”
Meanwhile, Van Dijk is looking forward to playing in front of Brazil goalkeeper Alisson and feels the former Roma star will be a good addition to the side next season.
“He is a quality keeper – that is for sure,” Van Dijk said. “We will see how he is going to fit in but he looks like a very good goalkeeper.
“He conceded a couple of goals against us [in the Champions League] but it can happen against us!”
