In the latest Liverpool news, manager Jurgen Klopp feels his players will be able to put the Champions League out of their minds for Sunday’s clash with Chelsea.
The Reds booked a date with Real Madrid in the final of Europe’s elite club competition after an incredible 7-6 aggregate triumph over Roma in midweek.
The Merseysiders hung on and progressed, despite losing 4-2 at the Stadio Olimpico, but it is now back to domestic matters and a tussle with Antonio Conte’s Blues at Stamford Bridge.
Victory for Liverpool will see them secure a spot a top-four spot but there is always the worry the players’ heads might still be on events in Rome.
However, the German tactician is adamant that his charges will be able to focus on the job in hand when they run out in west London.
“I have not a little bit of doubt about the mindset of my boys,” he said. “It was a really nice thing to go to the final. The crowd were still in the stadium and the boys went there.
“That gave them a real boost. Before that they were exhausted. Done. Happy, yes, but Chelsea on Sunday.”
Chelsea will certainly be up for the clash as they can still qualify for next season’s Champions League and sit fifth in the table, five points adrift of fourth-placed Tottenham.
It seems likely they will need to win all three of their remaining matches this term and Klopp has made it clear there will be no complacency from any of his men against a talented side.
“We have times in between the games for the boys to switch off and it is only important we switch on at the right moment and everything can be fine,” he added.
