This New York sports betting law would be historic
This attempt to put all of a player's gambling activity on the record and in front of their eyes would be an historic movement in the U.S. sports betting industry. Each monthly statement would be required to include a player's total deposits, wagers placed, the total number of sports bets made, which promotional credits and bonus bets were used, their net gains and losses, and the elapsed time they spent logged in to their sports betting account.
Players would also be able to access their lifetime betting history. This will enable those players to maintain perspective on their betting habits, such as how often and how much they bet, and how often they win compared to their losses.
"This bill modernizes consumer protections to ensure that mobile sports betting platforms operate responsibly in our state while prioritizing the well-being of our residents," Assembly Member Rebecca Kassay, the bill's sponsor, said in a news release.
Many betting sites already provide this type of data upon request. New York would be the first state to make the supply of that data mandatory.
Regular data may make it easier to identify problem gamblers
The stipulations of the bill may also serve as an alarm bell for players who are leaning toward becoming problem gamblers by identifying the red flags and patterns in their behavior that lead to such negative outcomes.
"Equipping New Yorkers with key data surrounding gaming activity and behavior bolsters informed participation and is critical in reducing problem gambling in our communities," Kassay said.
The bill has moved quickly and efficiently through the New York state legislature. The New York Assembly gave unanimous approval to
Bill A10329 in March by a 143-0 vote. New York's Senate Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee also gave unanimous approval to the bill by a 7-0 count on May 20. The bill advanced through a third reading on the Senate floor and to the Governor's desk on June 3.
If approved, this new law would go into effect on Jan. 1, 2027.
New York is the number one state in the U.S. legal and regulated sports betting market in generating revenue. As of May 2026, New Yorkers have wagered $4.2 billion on sports.
Other states may soon follow New York's lead
New York may be the first state to introduce this type of legislation, but it would appear it won't be the last. Across the state line, neighboring New Jersey lawmakers are also weighing a similar bill.
Senator John F. McKeon introduced legislation that would also call for sports betting sites to be compelled to distribute a player's data to the player every month. That bill is currently in committee.
