Arizona Accepting New Applications for Sports Betting Licenses

Arizona will open up sports license bidding on June 26

For organizations seeking to acquire an Arizona sports betting license, a 14-day application window for event wagering licenses will open on June 26 at midnight PST. This window will close on July 10, 2026 at 5 p.m. PST. Applicants must submit their completed applications within this timeframe to be considered for a license.

“As the state regulator, we remain dedicated to consumer protection and a thorough licensing review process,” Cliff Holden, the ADG's Assistant Director of Certification and Licensing, said in a release. “We look forward to receiving new applications for regulated event wagering.”

Review of all licensing applicants will begin on July 13. The ADG will evaluate all applications received in accordance with the established criteria outlined in the State’s event wagering rules and statutes.

This is the first time that the ADG has opened up its window to consider new sports betting license applicants since July 2024.

Only 13 of the 20 available Arizona sports betting licenses are currently in use

Under state law, Arizona offers a maximum of 20 available sports betting licenses. Of these 20 licenses, 10 are offered in partnership with one of the state's tribes. The remaining 10 licensees must partner with a sports franchise located in the state.

For instance, BetMGM partners with the NFL's Arizona Cardinals. Caesars Sportsbook has formed a partnership with the MLB Arizona Diamondbacks, and DraftKings partners with TPC Scottsdale. Bet365 (Ak-Chin Indian Community) and Fanatics Sportsbook (Tonto Apache Tribe) were both choosing to form partnerships with Arizona tribal organizations.

Originally, when Arizona launched legal and regulated sports betting in 2021, there were 18 licensed sports betting sites. Since that time, several sports betting sites that were operating in Arizona at one time have closed up shop and departed from the state.

This group includes Betfred, Betway, SuperBook Sports, Fubo Sportsbooks, TwinSpires, Unibet, and WynnBet. SaharaBets shut down its Arizona sports betting operation when the site's partner, the NHL's Arizona Coyotes, relocated to become the Utah Mammoth. Most recently, Sporttrade ceased its Arizona sports betting operation on May 26.

These departures have left the state with just 13 licensed sports betting sites. Even though there are seven licenses not currently in use, the ADG is only making two licenses available at this time.

The Grand Canyon State is a lucrative sports betting area

In 2025, Arizona sports bettors generated $713 million in revenue. That made it the sixth-highest state in total sports betting revenue.

The major players on the state's sports betting scene are BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, and FanDuel. Those four sportsbooks generate over 90% of all of Arizona's sports betting revenue.

Other sportsbooks that are currently active in Arizona include BallyBet, Bet365, Betcris, BetRivers, Desert Diamond, Fanatics Sportsbook, Golden Nugget, Hard Rock Digital, and theScore Bet.

Legal and regulated sports betting officially launched in the Grand Canyon State on September 9, 2021.
