Louisianians have a lot to celebrate right now. Sports betting was legalized across the Pelican State last summer, so residents could finally join in on the fun, but on January 28, 2022, online and mobile sports betting was given the go ahead too.
Here we take a look at what that means for Shreveport residents and visitors to the area.
In June 2021, Governor John Bel Edwards signed the first bills that started the process to legalize gambling across Louisiana. As you are probably aware, Louisiana is divided into 64 parishes that are governed by different councils who can make their own local rulings. Nine of these parishes did not agree with the legalization bill so gambling is prohibited in Caldwell, Catahoula, Franklin, Jackson, LaSalle, Sabine, Union, West Carroll and Winn. The good news for residents and visitors to Shreveport, being situated in the parish of Caddo, means that you are free to bet as you wish. Most city areas voted yes, so online sports betting in Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Lafayette is also legal.
Shreveport is home to half a dozen casinos and some offer sportsbooks where you can back your favorite sports team. Horseshoe Bossier City Casino opened a Caesars Sportsbook on October 31, 2021 to anyone aged 21 years and over, and offer a great variety of sports betting odds. Nearby Margaritaville Resort and Casino also offers a Barstool Sportsbook which accepts in person bets.
Then you’re in luck! Mobile sports betting became live and legal on January 28, 2022. If you don’t want to venture downtown, you can simply sign-up to open an account with one of the 6 online sportsbooks that are currently open to Louisiana residents. These are Barstool Sportsbook, BetMGM Sportsbook, BetRivers Sportsbook, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings LA Sportsbook, and FanDuel Sportsbook.
Each have their own sportsbook app, making it simple to bet anywhere across Shreveport, or in any of the legal Louisiana parishes. Because competition is fierce you will also find they offer fantastic sign-up bonuses. For example, the Caesars LA welcome promo offers $300 of free bet credits if you open an account using a qualifying bonus code and placing a first bet of exactly $20. Be sure to read our regular Betting.net sportsbook reviews to keep informed of the very best offers out there.
Perhaps you are more into your basketball than baseball, or football than F1. Legal sports betting is available in Shreveport on a wide variety of markets, including wagering on LA college sports, across the six live sportsbooks available now. And more are expected to come online over the next few weeks so keep revisiting Betting.net to hear of new launches as they happen.
If you fancy a flutter why not try out a few different types of bets, as most bets are legal, including moneylines, futures, parlays, and props. Perhaps the hottest match to keep an eye on over the next fortnight however is the Superbowl on February 13. There will be a staggering amount of best betting opportunities to get your hands on, so do your research and read our football betting tips to make sure you are ready to join in with the fun.
