Iowa State’s Jake Remsburg suspended for NCAA gambling violations

NCAA suspends Iowa State Cyclones offensive lineman Jake Remsburg for six games for gambling violations. The 2022 CSC Academic All-District awardee becomes the fifth projected starter on the roster to face penalties. This has added to the turmoil surrounding the team.
Last month, Remsburg and teammates Isaiah Lee, DeShawn Hanika, and Jirehl Brock faced charges in Story County for suspected record tampering to conceal their underage betting activities. Since then, both Brock and Lee have left the team.
The allegations also extend to quarterback Hunter Dekkers. He is accused of gambling on Iowa State sports events, including football games. He faces the exact charges as his four teammates. Dekkers and Hanika are still on the roster but did not participate in this summer’s camp.
Iowa refuses to confirm but will provide appeal support
According to the Des Moines Register, Remsburg faces allegations of betting on college football and basketball games, although none involved Iowa State’s games.
When contacted by Mail Sport, an Iowa State football spokesperson declined to confirm Remsburg’s suspension.
“Iowa State has received the eligibility rulings from the NCAA’s Student-Athlete Reinstatement (SAR) Committee and shared those with impacted student-athletes,” the statement read.
The statement reiterated the university’s stance that they would refrain from commenting on individual cases. However, the university would persist in providing support to student-athletes who choose to appeal their SAR decision.
In an ongoing investigation, 15 football and basketball players and staffers associated with Iowa State and Iowa faced charges last month. Among them are former Iowa players Arland Bruce IV and Reggie Bracy, current Iowa player Jack Johnson, and student assistant Owen O’Brien.
Court documents reveal that Remsburg’s account was registered under Keri Remsburg. There was also a reference to a DraftKings account registered under his mother’s name, Keri Meis.
In another development, former Cyclones defensive lineman Eyioma Uwazurike, drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2022, also faces charges in the Iowa Criminal Division investigation. The NFL suspended him indefinitely for betting on Broncos games during his rookie season.
