Arsenal has been drawn to face Italian giants AC Milan in the last 16 of the Europa League, in what is the tie of the round.

Despite suffering a surprise second-leg defeat to Ostersunds on Thursday, the Gunners made it through to the next round 4-2 on aggregate.

AC Milan had no such problems with a 4-0 aggregate success over Ludogorets and are enjoying a resurgence in form under new boss Gennaro Gattuso. The Serie A outfit are unbeaten in 11 games in all competitions, including four wins in the last four without conceding a goal.

The first leg of the meeting will take place at the San Siro, with Arsenal playing host to Milan in the crucial second leg.

Among the other standout, ties is Marseille against Athletic Bilbao, with third in the French league taking on the side that finished seventh in Spain last season.

Despite losing 1-0 in the away leg, Marseille knocked out Sporting Braga (3-1 on aggregate) in the last round while Bilbao also lost on Thursday but defeated Spartak Moscow 4-3 to make the last 16.

Atletico Madrid, many people’s favourites after dropping out of the Champions League, will expect to reach the quarter-finals after drawing Lokomotiv Moscow.

Borussia Dortmund squeezed past Atalanta in the last round and will now face FC Salzburg, who caused a surprise by defeating Spanish side Real Sociedad 4-3 on aggregate.

Former Champions League semi-finalists Lyon thumped Villarreal 4-1 on aggregate and their reward is a two-legged clash with CSKA Moscow.

The other ties see Lazio up against Dynamo Kiev, RB Leipzig clashes with Celtic’s conquerors Zenit St Petersburg while Sporting Lisbon comes up against Czech side Viktoria Plzen.
