The Big 10 and Pac 12 were both included in the most recent College Football Playoff top 4, which is a great sign for both conferences this late in the season. If Oregon can run the table and win the Pac12 they will likely get into the playoff, while the Big 10 has a few teams in the running for the Big 10 title and likely CFP spot.
Cincinnati had the biggest jump in the playoff rankings and moved into the 5th spot. The Bearcats need to keep winning and pull for Georgia to beat Alabama in the SEC title and they have a good shot of getting into the playoff as the first non-power 5 team. Check out our College Football Strategies Page to get tips and insight on how you can get an edge on this weekend’s games.
The Buckeyes control their own destiny in the Big 10
The Buckeyes were ranked 4th in the most recent CFP rankings and control their destiny in the Big 10 and are a lock to get into the CFP if they win out.
Remaining Schedule:
Ohio State has a tough final 3 game stretch that starts this weekend against a Purdue team that comes off of a big win over Michigan State last week. Ohio State then hosts a gritty Michigan State team and finished up on the road against Michigan. I could see Ohio State has been inconsistent but is one of the most talented teams in the country so it wouldn’t be that shocking to see them lose 2 of 3 or win out in convincing fashion.
Michigan State looks to bounce back against Maryland this week
Remaining Schedule:
Michigan State, like Ohio State, controls their own destiny despite the tough loss to Purdue last week. Michigan State should be able to get past a Maryland team and then will head into a big showdown against Ohio State in what will be similar to a Playoff game with the loser likely falling out of CFP contention.

Michigan had a tough loss 2 weeks ago to Michigan State but things change quickly from week to week and they are right back in the thick of things. Michigan may have the best path to win the Big 10 since they get to host Ohio State this year in a rivalry game that will have the Big House rocking. Michigan needs Michigan State to lose one game and then win out to win the Big 10 which is not that far of a stretch with the Spartans heading to Ohio State next week. Michigan fans will be in a tough spot having to pull for their rival Ohio State next week followed by resuming their normal hatred for them the following week.
The Sooners need to impress down the stretch to get into the CFP
Oklahoma still sits at 8th in the most recent CFP rankings but they have a few tough games left on their schedule and another chance in the Big 12 Championship game to improve their standing. Oklahoma needs to pull for Georgia to beat Alabama in the SEC title and then they should be able to get the 4th spot in the CFP. The oddsmakers have Oklahoma with the 4th best odds to win the National Title so that shows the confidence they have in Oklahoma to finish out the year strong.
The only hope for the Pac 12 to get into the CFP rests with Oregon who sits at 8-1 and 5-1 in the conference.
Here is Oregon’s remaining schedule:
Oregon should be able to win both of their home games against scrappy Washington State and Oregon State but they will have a tough test against Utah on the road next week. Utah is 6-3 and 5-1 in conference with a perfect 4-0 home record and looks like a different team when they get to play in front of their home crowd. Keep an eye out for a potential upset next week by Utah which would knock out the Pac 12 out of the CFP picture.
Cincinnati should be able to win out and needs Oregon, and likely either the Big 12 or Big 10 to have a couple of upsets down the stretch and they should get into the playoffs.
