After a four-week summer break, the F1 season is back in Spa, Belgium and we can’t contain our excitement. Spa, the second of the three ‘big’ European races, is a seven kilometers long track and fans love the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. Rumours have circulated that the track might not be featured on the F1 calendar in the future so this year’s event should be memorable. Spa’s F1 demise is due to competition for more tracks to be added on the calendar and thus far Spa management has not reached an agreement or made any deals for next year. Although the 20-corner track is beloved by drivers and fans alike, In Formula 1 money talks! At Betting.net we make sure that your money does the talking that’s why you should only use the best sportsbooks to place your bets!
This race will be most likely dominated by the title contenders, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc although It looks like Serio Perez is getting closer to them in what appears to be his best title shot yet. Charles should be leading the world championship by right, but Ferrari and Charles had a poor first half of the season with poor strategy decisions and silly driver mistakes. As a result Charles is now eighty points behind Max, the current champion. Red Bull, on the other hand, had already taken advantage of their reliability problems and maximized every race weekend. Max, who considers Spa his second home race because he was born in Belgium, has been outstanding and makes sure that he is ready to jump on every race, every weekend. He seems calmer and more in control of his car than in any other season I have seen him race in. If Ferrari wants their driver to win the championship, they need to be more focused and not shrug off their mistakes. Charles’ championship hopes are dependent on a successful second half of the season. Otherwise, this will be Max’s second consecutive title. Not sure on who to bet on? Mercedes seems to have found their mojo again in the last few races, with both of their drivers appearing on the podium consecutively. Mercedes’ team is a finely tuned, well-oiled machine. Although they didn’t have the best start to the season, and they may have lost the ninth consecutive constructors title, they showed us throughout the first half that they can maximize whatever machinery they have. Russel’s great start to the season was undoubtedly due to his more familiarity with a “bad” car. He had spent his previous years at Williams, a back-marker team in F1. Lewis, on the other hand, had to adapt his driving style to the W18. With the right aerodynamics, no bouncing and the Mercedes power unit, they are sure to be at the front of Spa. They will get more poles and the ever-intimidating win soon enough. Maybe they’ll surprise us with a spectacular performance this weekend. At Betting.net we think that the Mercs could get a chance at a second place in the constructors championship.
After last year’s mischief, we might expect a wet qualifying session and a wet race this weekend. Lando Norris is the only other driver from any team, other than Ferrari, Red Bull, and Mercedes, to be on the podium. Lando was having a great qualifying session in the rain last year before he lost control coming up from the Eau Rouge corner. This is something Lando should be paying attention to. Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz are potential candidates for the podium. Sergio Perez, currently third in driver standings, is hoping to challenge the top two drivers for a shot at a championship. Although it is a distant possibility, it’s the closest Sergio has ever come to winning a championship in his ten-year career in F1. Carlos, on the other side of things, wants to ride a wave to success after a disappointing first half. This was partly due to small mistakes made by the driver and Ferrari constantly tripping over their feet. He must make a statement, and he must deliver to help his team win the constructors title.
It’s at this point in time that we start to see movement within the driver market and contracts being extended and written up. It’s hard not to mention Daniel Ricciardo, who announced that he would be leaving the Mclaren team at end of the season. The Australian driver has not yet announced that he will be taking up a seat next year. However, rumors suggest that he will move to Haas in 2023. If this is true, Haas must prove to Daniel that they are able to provide him with a decent package in order to fight at the front. With Daniel Ricciardo’s name, they need to make sure that Haas have their finances under control if they wish to sign the Australian driver. So, who is his replacement? Oscar Piastri, both F3 and F2 champion is the obvious choice. When Alpine announced that Piastri would be replacing Alonso, the Australian native broke the F1 driver’s market. Oscar quickly pointed out that this was not true and that he had not accepted any of Alpine’s offers. He stated in a tweet, “I will not drive for Alpine in 2023 ”…ouch. Alpine seem to have something that pushes drivers away. They lost Danny Ric to Mclaren back when they were still called Renault. They lost former team principal Cyril Abetiboul and now Alonso, Piastri. Ocon seems happy with his current position, but what French racing team wouldn’t want a French driver?
