In the latest Everton news, boss Marco Silva has hailed the signing of Richarlison from Watford and believes the Brazilian adds real quality to the Toffees’ frontline.
The Blues confirmed the signing of Richarlison on Tuesday evening with the 21-year-old moving to Goodison Park in what has been reported as being an initial £35million deal that could eventually rise to £50million with various add-ons.
Silva knows Richarlison well and was part of the effort to bring him to Vicarage Road from Fluminese 12 months ago. The Everton chief says he’s a player than can play anywhere across the frontline and is the perfect man to add quality and improve competition for places ahead of the 2018-19 season.
“He is one more player who can help us,” Silva said. “He is a good player who will make our team and our squad more competitive. The competition between our players is really important to me.
“This is what will make us better as a club, always that competition within the squad.”
Richarlison impressed for the Hornets in the first half of last season under Silva, scoring five goals and getting five assists all before Christmas, eventually fading in the second half of the campaign.
Silva has no doubts about his ability, however, and thinks the Everton fans will quickly fall in love with the new recruit who could eventually become the club’s record signing.
Silva added: “The player himself is fast, strong, very good technically and he can play in three positions across the front line. He can also score goals.
“Evertonians will see a player who will be 100 per cent committed to helping our team always.”
Everton will hope Richarlison makes a big impact at Goodison Park and help them push for a top-six finish in the upcoming season, which is on offer at 6/1 with Paddy Power.
