Croatia News: Lovren fears nobody at World Cup

In the latest Croatia news, Dejan Lovren says his side are happy to go up against any team at the 2018 World Cup after thrashing Argentina 3-0 on Thursday night.

Croatia have often been dubbed dark horses for major tournaments but had failed to get past the group stage at the World Cup in their last three appearances prior to Russia.

However, the Vatreni, who beat Nigeria 2-0 in their opener, have already booked their place in the last-16 stage after producing a brilliant display to beat Argentina 3-0, leaving the European outfit top of Group D on six points.

Zlatko Dalic has been able to find a good balance in his starting XI, with Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, Inter winger Ivan Perisic and Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic receiving high praise.

Argentina’s World Cup fate is now out of their hands and there are reports suggesting head coach Jorge Sampaoli could be axed before their final group game against Nigeria on Tuesday amid discontentment in the camp.

Croatia, who will take on the runners-up of Group C if they top Group D, are seen as serious contenders to win the tournament and they are 14/1 with Ladbrokes to achieve the feat.

Liverpool defender Lovren says confidence is high within the squad and insists there is no team in the World Cup that scares his side.

“I don’t see any. We played a friendly against Brazil. We showed we can play in the first half [against them] – for me [they are] also one of the favourites,” he was quoted as saying by The Guardian.

“And we are not too scared against anyone. When you look, it’s 3-0 against Argentina… this is a big, big game. I don’t know when they lost the last time 3-0 at the World Cup.”

Croatia’s last Group D game is against Iceland on Tuesday and they are 27/20 with Ladbrokes to win. The draw is priced at 2/1 while their opponents are an 11/5 chance.
