In the latest Croatia news, defender Dejan Lovren believes he has established himself as one of the best defenders in the world having helped his country reach the World Cup final.
The Liverpool centre-back was a key figure in the 2-1 extra-time victory over England on Wednesday night, as he managed to the keep the Three Lions’ attack quiet for much of the encounter in Moscow.
It has been a strong season for the 29-year-old, after he helped Liverpool reach the final of the Champions League before going on to impress at the World Cup in Russia.
Lovren has had his critics in the past but the former Southampton defender feels he has emerged as one of the best players in the world in his position.
“It’s something special for me,” Lovren told beIN Sports. “From my point of view, people were saying I had a difficult season but I don’t agree with that.
“I showed that I took Liverpool to the Champions League final and now with my national team we are in the final.
“I think people should recognise that I’m one of the best defenders in the world and not just talk nonsense.”
Having overcome England, Croatia have one more hurdle to overcome as they face Didier Deschamps’ France side in the final on Sunday.
Les Bleus were tipped as serious contenders leading into the competition and will be looking to secure another major trophy, after losing in the final of the European Championships on home soil two years ago against Portugal.
