In the latest Chelsea news, Ross Barkley believes the Blues are in for an exciting season under new boss Maurizio Sarri.
Former Napoli chief Sarri succeeded fellow Italian Antonio Conte in the dugout at Stamford Bridge earlier this month and he took charge of his first game on Monday – the 1-0 pre-season victory over Perth Glory.
England international Barkley played the majority of that contest at the Optus Stadium and he has been impressed by what he has seen from his new manager so far.
“It has been very interesting,” Barkley told the club’s website. “The style that he wants us to play, it is really exciting and very attacking, as well as being very organised.
“We have been understanding what he has been getting across in training, but the more we do it in training, the more we get used to it and I can see from the training sessions that this season is going to be very exciting.”
Barkley only joined Chelsea from Everton in January, but he struggled to make an impact during the second half of last season, featuring in just two Premier League games.
A hamstring problem has hampered the 24-year-old’s development of late, but he now appears to be fully fit and will be hoping to enjoy a prolonged run in Sarri’s team this season.
Chelsea will kick-off their Premier League campaign when they travel to the John Smith’s Stadium to take on Huddersfield on August 11 and they are priced at 8/15 with bet365 to win that match.
Before that league opener, the Blues will continue to get to grips with life under Sarri when they take on Inter Milan, Arsenal and Lyon in the International Champions Cup, as well as the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 5.
