In the latest Chelsea news, youngster Ethan Ampadu has revealed his delight at signing a new five-year deal with the Blues.
The 18-year-old, who can play in midfield or defence, is tipped to become a first-team regular in the future and has already made seven senior appearances for the club.
After making his debut last November, Ampadu has also progressed into becoming an increasingly last part of the Wales squad, starting both of their Nations League games against Republic of Ireland and Denmark earlier this month.
His composed performances in the middle of the park further raised his profile and the club have moved quickly to tie the Exter-born star down to an improved deal.
Ampadu has committed himself to the Londoners until 2023 and is aiming to continue working hard in a bid to force his way into Maurizio Sarri’s plans as much as possible, starting on Sunday against West Ham.
He said: “I’m really proud and happy. I’m looking forward to the next five years and all I have got to do now is continue to work hard, and hopefully good things will happen.”
Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia believes Ampadu can be a future star at Stamford Bridge and has been impressed with his development since joining from Exeter in 2017.
She said: “Ethan has shown great potential and unbelievable maturity since arriving at Chelsea a year ago.
“In this short time he convinced a lot of people with his exceptional quality and mentality and we look forward to watching him develop into a key player for the club over the coming years.”
