We have a real treat in store for this Sunday Night football matchup as the 5-3-1 Pittsburgh head to Los Angeles to take on the 5-4 Chargers. The spread has only gotten bigger throughout the week in favor of the chargers, which seems strange with Big Ben back in at QB and the Chargers losing three of their last four games.
Luckily our experts at Betting.net look through all of the most information to give you a clearer picture on who to bet for the spread, moneyline, and point total. Originally this spread opened with the Chargers only favored by 3.5 points. Since then it went all the up to 6.5, but has settled back at 5.5. I can see the spread being large with Mason Rudolph in at QB, but all signs point to Big Ben suiting up for the black and yellow on Sunday night.
This is technically a home game for the Chargers, but I can’t imagine them having much of a home crowd. Years ago I went to a Monday Night Football game between these two teams in San Diego. The Chargers had more fans back then, and still the stadium had plenty of Steeler fans. The bolts will be lucky if the crowd is a 50/50 split, but realistically this might be more of a home game for the Steelers.
The Chargers are good at keeping games close whether they are the favorites or the underdog. Of their nine games this season, seven of them have been decided by a touchdown or less. I see this game being more of the same. I would still take the Chargers to win at “home,” but the Steelers to cover the spread and keep things close.
The Chargers defense might be getting worse as the season goes on. Over their last five games the Los Angeles D has allowed 30.8 points per game. Over that same stretch the Pittsburgh D has stepped up and carried their team. In their last five games, opponents are only scoring 16.6 points. It’s worth noting though that the teams they have been playing aren’t quite the same caliber as the Chargers offense.
The Chargers won’t have an issue putting up points, and their defense will give up plenty as well. Look for a high scoring game and take the over.
