In the latest Burnley news, James Tarkowski has suggested they can now focus on trying to catch the sides ahead of them in the table after hitting the 40-point mark.
The Clarets came from behind to beat Everton 2-1 in their most recent outing and have now equalled their best Premier League points tally in a single season.
Burnley have hit the magical 40-point mark with nine games still left to play and they sit in a lofty seventh despite not winning in 11 previous attempts prior to their victory over the Toffees.
Sean Dyche’s men are just five points shy of sixth-placed Arsenal and three clear of eighth-placed Leicester as they prepare to travel to West Ham on Saturday.
Tarkowski, who has been a key figure in the heart of Burnley’s defence this term, has hailed their achievement and insists they can now play with “freedom”.
“We’ve been looking at that 40-point mark for quite a while now,” Tarkowski said.
“It has been a bit frustrating but to get there now gives us the freedom to go out and play for the next nine games and try to get as many points as we can. Hopefully we can stay up and about where we are at the moment.
“I don’t think we’ve got a (points) figure to be honest; we just want to try and get as many points as we can.
“Obviously everyone aims for that 40 mark at the start of the season, so to get there with nine games to go is nice. We’re trying to chase the people above us rather than looking at those below.”
