Brooklyn man hits lottery jackpot twice at same store

Wayne Murray, who won $10 million in Brooklyn from a scratch-off ticket last year, has repeated his luck. Murray bought his second winning ticket at H&A Gas & Convenience on Avenue H in Brooklyn, where he had previously won in August 2022.

“It feels very humbling and liberating,” he said when getting his 2022 prize.

Spending $30 on the New York Lottery’s 200X scratch-off game, Murray opted for the lump sum option, receiving $6,122,400 after taxes.

After winning both times, the store manager, Asim, mentioned that Murray has yet to share the news with the staff at H&A Gas & Convenience. Asim admitted he still hopes for a small share of the winnings, especially since they don’t receive any bonuses for selling the winning scratch-off.

“The customer who won [is a] very nice boy. He can come back…so I’m hopeful,” said Asim, expressing optimism.

Furthermore, business is thriving after Murray secured his second win. “The store has become famous,” Asim said.

“I have seen new faces; some people keep asking [about the] lucky shop. They say they will get gas from here, so it is good for business too.”

Keeping a low profile

Murray then was spotted leaving his East Flatbush home in a new 2024 Range Rover SV worth at least $209,000. Despite his success, Murray prefers to keep a low profile.

“Some of us just like to be discreet. I just want to be discreet, that’s all it is,” said Murray to the New York Post after his second win. “Twice in a row, what are the odds? You can’t even think about it. It’s not comprehensible.”

H&A store clerk Hassan Nabil described Murray as a regular guy who enjoys playing the lottery and was “very generous with his time.” Nabil also pointed out that Murray’s sudden wealth didn’t change who he was as a person.

“Money changes a lot of people, but he doesn’t show off or anything. He keeps it real, keeps it honest. It’s a game for him, so he just keeps playing. If you win, you just want to win more,” the clerk said.
