In the latest Brighton news, Dale Stephens has challenged the Seagulls to build on last season’s performances as they look to beat the drop in the Premier League once again.
Albion looked comfortable in their maiden Premier League campaign and they are widely expected to put up another strong fight in 2018-19.
Brighton, who are priced at 2/1 to be relegated with bet365, finished 2017-18 in 15th – seven points clear of the bottom three – and new arrivals this summer have provided plenty of optimism going into the new campaign.
Chris Hughton has been busy in the summer window with new fewer than 10 new faces brought in to bolster his options.
Iran international Alireza Jahanbakhsh is the standout signing after agreeing a switch from AZ Alkmaar, while Yves Bissouma, Bernardo, Leon Balogun and Florin Andrade all look like good additions.
Stephens has already been impressed by Bissouma, who netted in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham, and insists he is excited to play with all of the new arrivals.
“He’s come with a lot of potential and you see in training he’s got bundles of ability.
“It’s exciting to bring players in like him and I’m sure he’ll fit into the squad quite nicely. I’m excited to play alongside these type of players.”
The south coast outfit failed to pick up a win in their first three Premier League games last season but they eventually found their feet and beat the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal in the final weeks.
Stephens has called on his team-mates to take confidence from those performances and build on the solid foundations put in place last term.
When asked about their aims, he added: “Just to build on what we did (last year), that’s got to be our blueprint. We finished the season quite strong and beat some of the big teams.
“We’ve got to take confidence from what we did last year and we’ve got to build on it.
“If we get a good start before Christmas, we’ll just see where we end up.”
