Brazil News: Silva ready for tough Belgium clash

In the latest Brazil news, Thiago Silva says his side will continue to “work hard” ahead of a “difficult” World Cup quarter-final clash against Belgium on Friday at the Kazan Arena.

Brazil eased into the last-eight stage in Russia with a 2-0 victory over Mexico on Monday and the Selecao are 11/4 favourites with bet356 to win the World Cup for the sixth time.

After a slow start to the tournament, Tite’s men appear to be ticking along nicely now, with Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar, who is 16/1 to win the Golden Boot, scoring the first goal and assisting the next in the victory over El Tri.

The South Americans have kept three clean sheets from four matches and head into Friday’s clash against Belgium with a 100% record against the Europeans, having claimed their one and only meeting 2-0 back in 2002.

Roberto Martinez’s men had to work extremely hard to make the quarter-finals after coming from 2-0 down in the second-half against Japan to win 3-2 on Monday.

Silva insists his side are happy with Brazil being dubbed as favourites for the World Cup and has also warned his team-mates to remain focused for the contest with the Red Devils.

“I think that in all competitions Brazil is the favourite. But we know that’s not enough,” he told reporters. “We have to work hard and give our best every game if we want to win the title. We will continue to work and rest well because Friday’s game will be even more difficult.”

Tite will be forced into one change with midfielder Casemiro suspended after picking up a second yellow of the tournament against Mexico, leaving the door open for Fernandinho to start.

Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus, who has yet to spark into life, is in danger of losing his place to Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino, who scored when coming on as a substitute last time out.
