In the latest Atletico Madrid news, manager Diego Simeone feels his side will come up against the world’s strongest squad when they travel to city rivals Real Madrid on Sunday.
Los Colchoneros are above Real in La Liga as they go into the game in second spot, with their hosts in third, four points further back.
It seems unlikely either will catch leaders Barcelona, who are nine points above Atleti, and it has been suggested both Madrid sides could make changes on Sunday as they focus on their respective European campaigns.
Simeone, who gave little away in terms of his team selection in his pre-match press conference, believes his side will have to be at their best regardless of any changes counterpart Zinedine Zidane decides to make for Los Blancos.
“We are who we are, and we will look for hard work as our base to play a big game,” Simeone said.
“Madrid have, if not the best team in the world, the best squad in the world. They have done great to put together a squad better than Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City or Barcelona. That is their strength. So whoever we play against tomorrow, we will know very clearly what we must do.”
Atletico have a number of injury problems, with Felipe Luis and Jose Maria Gimenez sidelined while Sime Vrsaljko and Sergio Gonzalez also look likely to miss out.
Atletico are 4/1 with Ladbrokes to claim all three points at the Bernabeu.
