IGT’s Las Vegas casino recently announced that a slot machine player won over $12 million. The player, who chose to stay anonymous, won exactly $12,185,766 while playing a Megabucks™ Triple Red Hot 7s Spitfire Multipliers™ Slot machine at the Excalibur Hotel & Casino on the Strip.
“IT HAPPENED AGAIN!” IGT wrote on its social media on Thursday.
The $12 million jackpot hit on October 18 and has become the second-largest jackpot in Nevada this year.
The first and biggest 2023 jackpot occurred in April at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, Nevada, when a gambler won $14 million from a $10 bet on a machine, as reported by FOX 5. The April win is considered the largest Megabucks win as of now in the “Biggest Little City.”
In July, a gambler in Vegas won $10.5 million on a Megabucks jackpot. A month later, someone won $10.1 million from a $5 bet while playing Megabucks Gold Forge Slots at Aria in Las Vegas.
However, the largest IGT jackpot ever won happened in 2003 at the Las Vegas Excalibur Hotel and Casino. A player, whom many called the “Suitcase Man” and was akin to an urban legend, won a massive $39.7 million prize.
The Suitcase Man, whose real name is William Lee Bergstrom, had a curious yet real tale for his monumental winning. Two decades ago, Bergstrom entered Binion’s Horseshoe casino in Las Vegas with two suitcases, one filled with cash, the other empty.
He wagered his entire $777,000 on the Don’t Pass line at a craps table. With a single roll of the dice, he doubled his money and left with both suitcases filled with his winnings.
On January 28, 2000, Las Vegas cocktail waitress Cynthia Jay-Brennan secured a then-record Megabucks jackpot of $34.9 million at the now-defunct Desert Inn hotel-casino. Tragically, six weeks later, her car was struck by a drunk driver, resulting in the loss of her sister’s life and her paralysis.
