In the latest Liverpool news, skipper Jordan Henderson says his side will be heading to the Champions League final later this month “with confidence” after they battled their way past Roma in the semi-finals.
The Giallorossi pushed the Reds all the way on Wednesday night at the Stadio Olimpico but just fell a goal short of taking the match into extra-time, despite a 4-2 victory for the hosts.
With Real Madrid getting the better of Bayern Munich over two legs, it will be La Liga giants Los Blancos lying in wait for the Reds in Kiev on May 26.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool still have the business of wrapping up a top-four place in the Premier League to secure Champions League football next season and Chelsea provide the next hurdle on Sunday.
Henderson was delighted to get past Roma and says the side will go into the final with confidence but first, he insists they are not losing sight of their Premier League priorities, starting at Stamford Bridge this weekend.
“We never do it the easy way but it was an amazing effort,” he told BT Sport. “Overall we handled the situation well apart from the last 10 minutes. We need to stop that but I’m delighted we’re in the final.
“We have another important game on the weekend against Chelsea and then we have Real Madrid in the final. We will go there with confidence.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool are 11/10 with William Hill to win the Champions League this season, while reigning European champions Real Madrid are 8/11 with the same bookmaker to retain the prestigious prize under head coach Zinedine Zidane.
