NCAA National Title Game Preview, Georgia vs. Alabama, Prop Bets, What to Watch For

Publish Date: January 10, 2022
Fact checked by: Jesse M Cox

We should be in for an epic national championship game between Georgia and Alabama Monday night, which will bring a nice change to the typical blowouts we see in the season finale. It is rare to get two teams from the same conference in the national championship game, but the stars aligned perfectly and Georgia and Alabama are the clear top two teams in the country.

Alabama beat up on Georgia in the SEC title game 41-24 as underdogs and shocked most of the country who had Georgia easily winning that game. Nick Saban has thrived as an underdog over the years and he used that as motivation to blow Georgia away.

Game Spread: Georgia -2.5

Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia will be hungry to win their first national title since 1980

Georgia is once again favored heading into this matchup which gives Nick Saban another chance to play up Alabama isn’t getting any respect card. If you asked Georgia coach Kirby Smart, he would probably prefer Alabama was favored due to the motivational angle that the Crimson Tide will use. Georgia has lost 7 in a row to Alabama and desperately wants to win their first National Championship since 1980. Alabama leads the all-time series 42-24-4.

Prop Bets to Consider

It is tough to beat the same team twice in the same season but it is very difficult to bet against Nick Saban and an Alabama team as the underdog. The X factor for Alabama is QB Bryce Young, who threw for 421 yards and 3 TDs in the first matchup and ran for 40 yards and an additional score. The athletes on Alabama and Georgia are fairly similar on both sides of the ball for both teams and stocked with 5-star prospects across the board.

The big gap between both teams is at the QB position where Georgia features game manager Stetson Bennett vs. the electric Bryce Young. I like Alabama once again to dominate this game and I wouldn’t be shocked to see a similar score to what we saw in the SEC title game. In that case, Alabama by 14+ may be a bet worth taking a flier on. If Georiga somehow wins this game I think it will be very close and they will need to have a couple of turnovers.

Get Alabama +.5

It is shocking that Alabama is heading into this game as the underdog after the last time these teams faced off against one another. As much as Georgia wants this game I think Alabama will come out swinging offensively and Young will use his mobility to get out of the pocket and extend some plays. I like Alabama to get on the board early and put pressure on Georgia to try to play from behind as they did in the SEC title game. Alabama thrives when they can take an early lead and use their aggressive defense to put pressure on the Bulldogs.

Total Points 41.5 Points

The total points number seems very low considering the type of game we saw the last time these teams faced one another. This game will be in the dome in Indianapolis which means we will have the same fast turf that will give the skilled players the perfect conditions to put up points. I think we see a high-scoring game with Georgia realizing they need to get aggressive on offense to keep up with the Alabama offense.

What to watch for

Nick Saban vs. Kirby Smart

Kirby Smart spent years as an assistant under Nick Saban before taking over the Georgia program in 2016 and will be looking to get the Dogs over the hump on the national stage. Smart has recruited at the highest level in the country over the last few years and the only thing missing is a national title. Both Smart and Saban are defensive specialists so it will be fun to watch how both coaches change up their game plan from their matchup a few weeks ago.
