The last team to score refers simply to the team in a game of football which scores the final goal of a match. The final goal could be scored during the opening minutes of the match, or in the last few seconds of injury time, and in either case the team scoring it would count as the last team to score.
The appeal to many bettors of betting on the last team to score is that it is a very simple bet. If the team which is bet on scores, and no other goals are scored afterwards, then the bet becomes a winning bet. In matches in which only one goal is scored, then the first and last team to score will, of course, be the same team.
While the team which is a favourite to win the match is usually the favourite to score the first goal, predicting which team will score the last goal is a little bit more difficult. In most cases, the better team will be seen as being more likely to score the last goal, or any goal, but not with any degree of certainty. In some matches, for example, the superior team may have scored several goals but will then relax, with the match being won, allowing the other team to score a late consolation goal.
While a bet can be placed on the first or last team to score before the match kicks off, once a goal has been scored it’s possible to place a bet on the next team to score, which is often tempting if the first goal was felt to have come against the run of play. Of course in some cases, this may also turn out to be the last goal of the match. By carefully studying the odds offered by a range of bookmakers, it may be possible to find varied and appealing bets on last team to score, as it is a market which is more difficult to predict than most.
