One team must move the football to the opposite endzone in order to score a touchdown. All gridiron codes require that the touchdown be scored when the ball touches or “breaks the plane at the front of the goal line. The touchdown requirement is different from other sports where points are scored by moving a ball, or an equivalent object, into a goal. For a score to be given, the entire object must cross the goal line, in Football the ball just has to touch the Goal Line. Depending on the rules, the offensive player has established possession by controlling the ball with one or both of his feet, and not touching the ground. A touchdown is scored when the ball touches or passes directly over the goal line. Only the ball counts and not the helmet, feet, or other body parts. Touching the pylons on either side of the goal line with a ball is considered “breaking the plane”.

How much is a touchdown worth?
A touchdown is worth six points. The scoring team is also awarded the opportunity for an extra point or a two-point conversion.
